ALEJANDRO BERENSTEIN


Alejandro Berenstein is a Professor in Neurosurgery, Radiology and Pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at The Mount Sinai Health Care Systems. He is the Director of The Hyman Newman Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery, and Co-Director of the Pediatric Cerebrovascular Center for the Mount Sinai Health System.

He is a Mexican/American-trained physician-scientist who has advanced the field of neuroendovascular surgery (interventional neuroradiology) device inventions, introduction of functional vascular anatomy, development of innovative procedures and treatments, clinical trials, training, and leadership. Has developed animal models of vascular disease, classification and grading systems for craniofacial vascular malformations, industry trials, education of fellows, and treatment of adults and pediatric patients with cerebrovascular diseases, head neck, spinal and spinal cord vascular pathologies. Has presented over 700 lectures, and hold authorship on over 230 scientific publications in peer review journals, as well as 9 books including "Surgical Neuroangiography” over 33 separate books or chapters. He has received numerous awards, Including The Ramon y Cajal Award in Medicine for Distinguished Latin American Physicians.
